A vast array of information and data is available on-line. This page is an attempt to bring together and oraganize those resources. Because many of these sites cover many subjects, it is hard to pigeonhole them all; thus a number of them are listed more than once. Also note that data/imagery from some sensors/satellites (e.g., Landsat) is available from multiple locations, so check around before actually ordering anything.
= information on satellites,
sensors, data types, applications, and/or links to other sites.
= data/image distribution
source.
General Sites
| EROS (Earth Resources Observation Systems) The USGS metasite providing background info and links to the subsidiary and related distribution sites (EDC DAAC, GLIS, and NSLRSDA). | ||
| Global Land Information System (GLIS) The USGS on-line Gateway for a wide range of imagery, data, maps, etc. Available imagery includes AVHRR, Landsat, SLAR, and aerial images. Searchable via map or coordinates. A prime resource for finding what is available in a given project area. | ||
| EDC DAAC (EROS [Earth Resources Observation Systems] Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center) Another USGS searchable on-line distribution source, featuring Landsat, AVHRR, SIR-C, and airborne imagery. Another prime resource for tracking down and ordering data and imagery. | ||
| National Satellite Land Remote Sensing Data Archive (NSLRDA) One more USGS on-line archive, specifically for satellite data. Holdings include data from Landsat, AVHRR, MODIS, ASTER, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), LightSAR, and the Small Spacecraft Technology Initiative (SSTI). Geared toward natural resources/environmental applications. Essentially another gateway to GLIS. | ||
| Canada Centre for Remote Sensing General gateway for remote sensing focused on Canada. Distributes data from a range of satellites (LANDSAT, NOAA AVHRR, SPOT, GEOCOMP AVHRR, SEASAT, ERS, RADARSAT), and describes the satellite sensors and types of data collected. | ||
| Remote Sensing Home Page - Center for International Earth Science Information Network Information on the use of remote sensing in the study of global environmental change. | ||
| The German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) Links to distribution sources for a range of satellite data (LANDSAT, SAR, X-SAR, AVHRR, MOMS, MOS, etc.). | ||
| ISIS - Intelligent Satellite Data Information System The German DFD/DLR distribution gateway for satellite data. On-line graphical interface for searching, selecting, and ordering data from LANDSAT, SAR, and other sources. | ||
| NASA Earth Science Enterprise All about NASA's endeavors relating to Earth Sciences. Links to sites on all the different satellites and projects. | ||
| The World-Wide Web Virtual Library: Remote Sensing Lots of remote sensing links to organizations, information, and data sources. |
Optical/Reflected Light Imagery (Satellite and Aerial)
| Space Imaging Source for a range of imagery, including IKONOS (optical images with 1m resolution), Digital Airborne Imagery Systems (DAIS), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) from 8m to 30m resolutions. Products also include DEMs and DOQs. | ||
| Spot Image (US subsidiary) (French Headquarters) Source for SPOT satellite images (10m and 20m sensors), which are also available through GLIS, plus a range of derived and proccessed Geographic products. Also a source for radar imagery (ERS). | ||
| Browser for Earth Observations from Shuttle Searchable on-line archive of photographs taken from the Space Shuttle, gives lows resolution images for browsing. Higher resolution pics can be ordered. Has links to other on-line sources of earth imagery. | ||
| LANDSAT: LANDSAT Pathfinder Program A NASA-USGS program that maintains low-cost datasets of Landsat data aimed at global change research. | ||
| Microsoft Terraserver Access to B&W imagery from aerial photos and the SPIN-2 satellite with a slick interface for zooming in on point of interest. Can purchase photos for rather low prices, but coverage of the earth is limited. The main point of the site is to showcase Microsoft technology. | ||
| DLR-TUBSAT TUBSAT (Technical University of Berlin Satellite) optical imagery from 6m to 370m resolution. | ||
| Floatograph A company with products (balloons and masts) for taking elevated photographs. |
Radar Imagery
| NASA/JPL Imaging Radar Home Page Main source for NASA-acquired radar imagery/data, with info on various missions and instruments and links to get data. And a cool guessing game on the home page... | ||
| NASA SIR-C Data Provides a description of the Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C (SIR-C)/X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (X-SAR) mission and instruments, and links for acquiring SIR-C data from NASA. | ||
| The X-SAR User Kit Distribution site for the X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (X-SAR) data. The X-SAR instrument collected data in conjunction with the SIR-C mission, but is distributed separately by DLR in Germany. | ||
| RADARSAT Interactive Distribution site for RADARSAT image and data products, plus SPOT, ERS, IRS, and LANDSAT products. Classroom pages are good information source. | ||
| RADARSAT Overview - Canada Centre for Remote Sensing Descriptive page on RADARSAT. | ||
| Space Imaging Provides a range of SAR data products. | ||
| CARTEL (Centre d'Applications et de Recherches en Teledetection) Some information on radar imagery and links to other sites. Mostly in French, with some English pages. |
Archaeological/Anthropological Projects and Applications
| Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeology A good-sized site featuring a good bibliography, links to archaeological projects and other web resources, satellite images of archaeological sites, and links to satellite imagery sources. | ||
| Archaeological Remote Sensing Consortium A working group of archaeologists with interests in remote sensing. Site provides links to other sites with information and sources of data and pages about archaeological projects utilizing remote sensing. | ||
| SIR-C/X-SAR: Archaeology Description and illustration of various projects utilizing SIR-C/X-SAR radar data. | ||
| The Aerial Archaeology Newsletter On-line newsletter devoted to archaeological uses of aerial imagery; includes links to other projects. |
