ARF Outreach
Greetings from the ARF Public Outreach Program for 1998/99!   The year has gotten off to a great start, with one of the Wednesday Brown Bag Lecture Series presentations dedicated to an overview of and orientation to the Outreach Program.  Since then, over a dozen of our graduate students have participated in Outreach events.  From kindergartners to college students, in English and in Spanish, visits have brought information about the practice of archaeology (and real archaeologists) to people in our surrounding communities.  We look forward to keeping up the brisk pace over the coming semester, as well as continuing our successful participation in Cal Day on April 17!

In the Spring, we plan to expand internship opportunities in Outreach by offering credits for undergraduates to design and compile archaeology teaching modules.  We envision that these modules will be available for use not only for students doing Outreach visits, but also for community members and teachers to borrow and use on their own — a sort of lending library.  If anyone can offer the donation of materials or other items to support the creation of these modules, it would be welcomed!

If anyone has any questions, comments, or suggestions about the Outreach Program and its activities, please feel free to contact the Outreach Coordinator at outreach@qal.berkeley.edu.
